Florovsky, George
(1893–1979)
   Theologian and Ecumenist.
   FIorovsky was the son of a Russian Orthodox priest and was educated at the University of Odessa. After the Revolution, he left Russia and held academic positions in Sofia, Prague and Paris. After the Second World War, he moved to the United States of America, where he taught in New York, at Harvard and at Princeton. His Ways of Russian Theology (English translation 1972) did much to introduce Orthodox thought to the West and he was an important figure in the ecumenical movement, serving as a delegate at assemblies of the Faith and Order movement and of the World Council of Churches.
